Laser Gum Therapy Is Fast And Pain-Free

Gum Treatment Laser

The tiny laser wand cleans your gums quickly and painlessly.

Our hygienists love to use their Diode Laser machine for gum treatment because it allows them to handle gum disease quickly, and without the need for injections. When used for cleaning, the laser breaks up the tartar and it is flushed out allowing the gums to heal more effectively.

How Does the Diode Laser Work?

The diode laser is not much larger than a strand of hair, making the procedure quite comfortable.

The hygienist aims the laser between the gum tissue and teeth, where it painlessly removes and kills the bacteria that cause gum disease. The small laser is able to penetrate deeply into pockets between the gums and teeth, ensuring that bacteria has no place to hide.

Because the diode laser kills bacteria, it is also used to sterilize the gums before or during root canals, cavity treatment, and other such procedures.

PerioProtect Non-Surgical Gum Disease Treatment in Lakeport, CaliforniaThe PerioProtect system will comfortably keep your gums bacteria-free

The PerioProtect system consists of a series of trays that deliver antibiotics directly to your gum pockets, simply and painlessly. These trays can deliver medication deep into areas that are hard to reach, and will make sure that the bacteria can’t continue to grow in your gums and cause gum, tooth or bone degeneration.

While not every dentist can provide PerioProtect periodontal treatment, Dr. Siegel is a  Premier Certified PerioProtect Provider. And you can continue your treatment at home, using the custom-molded, medicated Perio Trays.

How it works

PerioProtect trayThe PerioProtect non-surgery treatment uses a patented and FDA cleared device called PerioTrays. After a through examination, we take impressions of your teeth and gums.  A PerioProtect licensed dental laboratory then constructs the Perio Trays from your custom prescription.

We insert specially prescribed medications into the Perio Trays, which are then placed over the teeth and gums.  The time and frequency the Perio Trays are used each day varies by the severity of the disease.

The patented trays force the medications deep into the infected gums to reach and eradicate the harmful bacteria that are the cause of periodontal disease. Even in advanced cases, the treatment takes only minutes per day.  And you can take the trays that Dr. Siegel has prepared home with you!

Ultrasound Gum Treatments Provide Comfortable, Deep Gum Cleaning

cavitron.jpgTo remove stubborn deposits of tartar, plaque or bacteria, Dr. Siegel and his experienced hygienist may also suggest ultrasonic scaling or "deep cleaning."

Using a scaling device that looks like a small wand, they will aim the tip at stubborn deposits. The tip produces ultrasonic vibrations which, in combination with a flow of water, remove plaque, tartar and bacteria from the teeth, gums and mouth.

Ultrasonic cleaning is more effective than old-fashioned methods and can remove build-up beneath the gum line and stubborn deposits.

Periodontal Disease Is An Infection

Gum disease is progressive. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection.  In the early stages, the disease infects the gum tissue. If left untreated, the infection will progress to the bone supporting the teeth.  The end stage result is the loss of teeth.

In a healthy state, the gums around your teeth are tight, pink, do not bleed when they are gently probed, and there is little space between the gums and the teeth for bacteria to build up.

If the bacteria are not removed effectively, the first stage of gum disease is that your gums can start to bleed and may become red and swollen (gingivitis). This may not be readily visible, especially in between and around the back teeth, but the space between the gums and teeth becomes bigger. The bacteria now have somewhere to hide.

As the space (pocket) deepens, the bacteria change in nature and become more aggressive. Your body starts to fight this infection. The combination of the bacteria and your body's response to them, leads to a loss of the bone that supports the teeth.

Medical research increasingly shows periodontal disease may be linked to an increased risk of other serious medical problems, including heart attack, stroke, and diabetes.

Do You Have Gum Disease?

Poor oral hygiene, irregular professional dental cleanings, smoking or chewing tobacco, taking certain medications, defective fillings, crooked teeth and systemic diseases are contributing factors to gum disease.

Some warning signs of gum disease are:

  • Gums that bleed during brushing
  • Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
  • Persistent bad breath or bad taste
  • Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
  • Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
